Breakcore & Studying: My Personal Ritual

Breakcore & Studying: My Personal Ritual

I know this blog is supposed to be about music and traditions like weddings, funerals, and holidays, but honestly... I don’t have experience with any of that I’ve never been to a wedding, and the only funeral I’ve ever been to was my grandma’s and great grandpa's, and I don’t even remember if they played music there. So I don’t really have any traditional experiences where music played a big role.

But if we’re talking about music as part of personal rituals, then yeah, I definitely have one. Whenever I need to focus on studying or doing assignments, I always listen to breakcore. Specifically, I listen to Proloxx, and his remix of Rude Buster is basically my go-to song when I need to get stuff done.

Why Breakcore?

Most people think of study music as lo-fi beats, classical music, or just something soft in the background but that never worked for me. If I try to listen to something slow or relaxing, my brain just starts wandering and I can’t focus at all. Breakcore is chaotic, it’s fast, and somehow that actually helps me lock in. The crazy drum patterns and glitchy sounds keep my brain from getting bored and zoning out.

Here’s the Proloxx Rude Buster Remix, the one I always play when I need to concentrate:

This song is originally from a game called Deltarune, but Proloxx’s remix takes it to another level. It’s so fast paced that it kind of forces my brain to match the energy and keep up. Instead of getting distracted, I just go.

The Ritual of It

I don’t have traditions like weddings or religious ceremonies, but this is basically a ritual for me. The second I put on my headphones and start playing breakcore, my brain knows it’s time to work. I don’t even have to think about it anymore, it just happens. The music drowns out distractions, and it’s almost like I’m in a speedrun of doing my assignments.

Another artist I listen to a lot while studying is Goreshit. The name sounds wild, but the music is so good. His song "Burn This Moment Into The Retina Of My Eye" is another one I play all the time:

This one has that fast-paced breakcore energy. It’s weirdly hypnotic, which helps me stay focused for long study sessions.

Final Thoughts

I don’t have any deep emotional connection to music in big life events like some people do, but I still have a way that music fits into my life. Breakcore has kinda become my own personal tradition whenever I need to sit down and get something done, it’s the first thing I turn to. It’s not the kind of music most people would expect to help with focus, but hey, it works for me.

  1. Dawn! Our music experience is so different when it comes to studying! I normally like to sit on the quiet because I think I'm able to focus better that way, however when I am somewhere with people around, I like to play white noise on Spotify or even rain sounds. I was not expecting this kind of beat when I clicked on the Proloxx Rude Buster Remix video, but I thought that was so interesting!! Personally, I could never... but I'm glad you found something that works for you!!

  2. Hi Dawn, our music taste when it comes to studying is very different! I usually like to listen to more calming music. Though when listening to your recommendations I can definitely understand why you chose them. I actually already had the first song you recommended in my playlist!

  3. Hey Dawn! The "Proloxx Rude Buster Remix" song would overstimulate me so bad, but I find it so interesting that you can actually lock in with it LOLL😭 When it comes to studying slow, lyrical music, like R&B, works best for me! Though I will admit... I don't get much done, so maybe it's time to change my music style..💀 I did like the songs and I might give them a chance the next time I study!
